A finished LightPulse measurement showing 73 BPM, tagged Resting, with it marked on a range dial.

How the measurement works

The flash shines into your fingertip and some of that light comes back out. Each heartbeat pushes blood in, which absorbs a little more of it, and the camera is sensitive enough to see the difference. LightPulse watches that for fifteen seconds.

Fifteen seconds of a fingertip, as the camera sees it.
  1. 1

One fingertip. Covers the camera and the flash — that’s the entire setup.

  2. 2

Fifteen seconds. Hold still while LightPulse reads your pulse.

  3. 3

Your number, saved. Tag it, and it’s part of your history.

Don’t just measure. Find your patterns.

Tag every measurement — coffee, exercise, stress, poor sleep, whatever you’re curious about — and LightPulse keeps it with the date and time. LightPulse Plus turns that history into answers: a resting heart rate built from more than one measurement, and how far each tag actually moves you from your calm floor.

Insights

Once you’ve tagged a few measurements, Insights turns them into answers.

What’s my real resting heart rate?
Built from more than one measurement — not a single lucky one — and checked against a normal range.
Does coffee actually raise my heart rate?
Tags compared shows how far each tag — coffee, stress, exercise, poor sleep — sits from your calm floor, above or below.

Why your camera can do this

Each heartbeat changes how much blood is in your fingertip, which changes how much light passes through it. Your iPhone’s camera is sensitive enough to see that change — a technique called photoplethysmography, or PPG. LightPulse checks the signal is clean before it calculates anything: a wrong number would be worse than no number.

LightPulse is intended for general wellness. It is not a medical device and does not diagnose or treat any condition.

Your heart data is yours

There’s no LightPulse account and no sign-up. Your measurements are stored in your own iCloud account — LightPulse can’t read them. Saving to Apple Health is optional and off until you turn it on. Nothing is linked to your name, account, or an advertising identifier. Full detail in the privacy policy.
